and from experience in other contexts i know my current level of activity is unsustainable. (my zoloft blocks out only so much of the ranting and other sheer nastiness that has been showing up in posts over at I&U. even given the amount of time i'm able to spend there, i'm not sure sure in retrospect how i've been managing over 1000 posts per week. and the 8-hour days turned into 12-18-hour days spent trapped in I&U. i have to rely on knowing what has worked for other people in those cases, and knowing what the experts have said in similar-enough circumstances.) (my great limitation in this field is still that i don't have toonz's or CoJeff's or Katrina's skill with registry issues. then when CoJeff got injured, i ended up doing a lot of hands-on troubleshooting. i started off basically trying to learn where all the relevant KB docs were and doing some simple referral and networking-to-case-studies work. i recall having several bemused conversations with Buegie about it. I actually began getting good at installer errors by so i was in a position to be a frequent poster a bit more quickly than normal. i think a good analogy is with learning a new language by "total immersion" amongst speakers of that language. shortly after visiting the forums here, i decided to try treating "advice" here as an informal full-time voluntary work position.īecause i had more time to devote to the forums than people with external lives, i was able to follow the experienced people around, and see what advice was working for particular problems in most circumstances. due to an complex combination of health, visa and financial circumstances, i can't currently do any PhD studies at Chapel Hill and i'm not allowed to work in the US. How do you manage to do that, by the way, if you don't mind?
